The Mount Baldy Complex is the headquarters and principal research facility of the Institute for Environmental Systems Analysis, bringing together its administrative, scientific, technical, archival, intelligence, and field-support functions in one place.
Environmental analysis spaces for examining physical conditions recorded during Institute fieldwork — atmospheric observations, water and soil samples, geological materials — plus facilities for the inspection, calibration, repair, and preparation of field instruments.
Working records, historical files, field notebooks, correspondence, technical reports, maps, and photographs. Records are retained even when an investigation produces no extraordinary conclusion.
The site supports intelligence, counterintelligence, signals-analysis, and security functions, and serves as the principal preparation point for fieldwork in mountain and desert environments, coastal and offshore locations, and volcanic and geothermal terrain.
The facility is not generally open to the public. Entry requires an Institute purpose, a responsible host, and prior authorization. More precise location details are withheld to protect personnel and sensitive research areas.
